HDDD A2 Deluxe is a new product for the Apple II family of computers which is based on the HDDD A2 v1.2 board and expands it with additional functionality and polished look, resulting in an easy to use floppy drive compatible with Apple Disk ][ drive, including integrated cable with DB19 interface connector similar to standard Apple 5.25” drive (A9M0107), UniDisk 5.25” drive (A9M0104) or Disk IIc (A2M4050). Made from quality components, HDDD A2 Deluxe sports luxury aluminum casing, combining the design of a modern product with the retro style of the original Apple II drives.

HDDD A2 Deluxe has integrated standard IBM PC compatible 3.5” HD floppy drive and works with 3.5” HD diskettes. Supports all Apple II operating systems (DOS 3.3, ProDOS, UCSD, etc.) with 140KB capacity per side. Apple II uses only single side of the diskette, so HDDD A2 Deluxe offers the convenience of a quick side switch by pressing of a button on the front panel, with Side #0 being indicated by a LED integrated in the button itself.

HDDD A2 Deluxe also has daisy chain pass-through port and can work with another HDDD A2 or original 3.5” and 5.25” Apple drives.

Being a modern product, HDDD A2 Deluxe can be powered in two alternative ways. First one is being powered by the Apple II via the interface cable, just like any regular Apple floppy drive. Second is by the included external 100-240V power supply adapter, for which there is special connector at the rear panel, complete with an On/Off switch and Internal/External power selection switch. In the left side of the front frame there is a LED mounted, indicating power via the interface cable with green light and external power with yellow light. Due to their “age” some Apple II power supplies could be not powerful enough or just out of specs, so depending on installed modules and load their operation may be unstable. With the option of external power supply HDDD A2 Deluxe minimizes the main-board load and thus tries to increase the stability of the whole system. Of course, using the external power supply is optional.
